#Movie Review

I wanted to watch carbon movie ever since it’s first look poster came out. I though the poster itself utilized the flexibility of Fahadh as an actor. but between my life as an engineering student and a film lover was taking its toll on me these days, i had to finish my final project by this semester and i was on the run today. but fortunately the chance to watch carbon present on itself . and i made the most out of it.

Carbon is a malayalam movie directed by Venu. starring Fahadh faasil and Mamtha Mohandas. Venu Directed the 2014 malayalam movie munnariyippu which i liked. and I was exited for this one. The movie opened to a slow start.

The entire first half of the movie is more or less the establishment of Fahadh’s character Sibi. I felt the script overdone it a little bit, I will get to it. now due to some reasons Fahadh has to move to a remote location and there he meets Sameera, done by Mamtha Mohandas. sibi is a tipical yougster with big dreams and Sameera is a free bird, roaming around the world visiting places.

They along with 2 locals from the place decides to go an a journey seeking a long lost treasure in the dense forest. All the treasure hunt stuff in the movie could have been great. at a certain point in the movie Fahadh get abandoned in the forest and he has to survive, but all those things are either shot poorly or not concentrated on. there are several sub-plots in the movie where it get sidetracked for most of the run time. The whole survival thing is pushed to the extreme end of the movie , it would have been a thousand times better it was concentrated on the survival little more. the bond between Sibi and Sameera is shot ok. also the tension in the exploration team is portrayed good. I just hope they put more time and resources to the 3rd act a little more. it felt like rushed. however the performance by Fahadh was wonderful. he made us believe in the isolation and desperation of the situation. we had a lot to work with. and i believe if they the script and crew put a little bit more into the 3rd act Fahadh could totally handled it. The film however does not put you into the depth of boredom.

The editing of the movie was bad, like really bad. I though that even the simple dialogue exchanges were edited bad. however it was more than made up in the cinematography department. it was beautiful and the dop K U Mohanan was able to capture the beauty of kearala forests. you could just watch the movie just for the visuals . however under the beauty of the frames the creativity was lacking. i am not complaining but it would have been icing on the cake if the frames carry some creative compositions and use of colour, the direction of the movie was good, and the intentional omission of some detailing shots in the screenplay felt fresh. overall i thing you should definitely check this one out.

( Don’t thing i am nitpicking but the opening credits in the movie felt absolutely boring, just saying !.)
